You want to play your audio through the displays simultaneously, which is enough of a trick in itself. Imagine you, like one very fortunate Rogue Amoeba user, have not one but two Studio Displays. We admit that this is very much a first-world problem. Play Audio through Two Apple Studio Displays What might you want to do with Rogue Amoeba’s apps? Apart from the obvious use cases core to each app, we wanted to share some of the weird and wonderful ways users have leveraged Airfoil, Loopback, and Farrago. Act soon, though, because this sale ends with September. Just visit Rogue Amoeba’s website to save 20% off any purchase. You don’t need any coupon codes or special URLs to get this deal. However, the company is making an exception for its 20th anniversary with a 20%-off sale-now’s your chance to add some additional apps to your Mac audio toolbox. Thanks to reasonable pricing and a desire to keep things straightforward, Rogue Amoeba almost never has sales. During that time, the company has extended its pseudopods deep into the world of Mac audio with a collection of apps for recording audio ( Audio Hijack and Piezo), controlling and enhancing audio from devices and apps ( SoundSource), streaming audio around your home or office ( Airfoil), editing audio ( Fission), routing audio between apps and devices ( Loopback), and even adding canned audio to performances ( Farrago). This month, Rogue Amoeba is celebrating its 20th anniversary, which is an awful lot of generations when you’re a single-celled organism. We’re pleased to welcome Rogue Amoeba back as a TidBITS sponsor for the next few issues. #1663: Exploring the Apple Vision Pro, 12 more OS features coming in 2023, new Apple service features, Apollo shuts downĪudio Hacks from TidBITS Sponsor Rogue Amoeba.#1664: Real system requirements for OS 2023, beware Siri creating alarms instead of timers.#1665: Important OS security updates, abusive Web notifications, solve myopia with an iPhone, Self Service Repair.#1666: Air quality websites and apps, The Password Game.#1667: OS Rapid Security Responses, 1Password and 2FA, using Siri to request music. That may seem trivial, but I toggled this option on, disabled Apple’s “Show volume in menu bar” option, then moved SoundSource 4 to the same position on the menu bar using the Option key and haven’t looked back. SoundSource 4 supports macOS Dark Mode and includes an option to display the output volume indicator on the menu bar just like the current Sound preference setting. The software makes it easy to switch between input or output sample rates-that is, unless you have dedicated video hardware which locks the output sample rate at 48Hz. These advanced options are tucked away out of sight, accessible by clicking the right-facing arrows next to each device or application. That’s right-if you already have AU plug-ins installed on your system, they’ll now work directly in SoundSource 4 straight away, while the equalizer includes over 20 presets with the ability to create and save your own. Per-application audio controls allow SoundSource 4 owners to route sound from different software to as many devices as you have.Įven more cool, each output comes equipped with a 10-band Lagutin equalizer, balance slider, and the ability to apply Audio Unit effects. This amazingly powerful addition comes configured with a selection of sound-producing apps when you install SoundSource, but others can easily be added, with drag-and-drop support for arranging icons in any order you like. This allows users to raise, lower, or mute the output of individual apps, enable Magic Boost only for specific software, or redirect apps to a different output altogether. If that’s all SoundSource did, it would still be worth the money, but version 4.0 kicks things up a notch with per-application audio controls. Aside from choosing a different system sound effect, you’ll never have to open Sound Preferences again, but the settings gear includes convenient shortcuts to those options as well as Audio MIDI Setup, should you need it. By default, SoundSource tethers to the menu bar, but clicking the pin icon in the upper left corner conveniently detaches the window so it floats over whatever else you’re doing.
